Course Description

The 750 Clock Hour Instructor in Training Program at Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute is designed to prepare future leaders in education with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to excel as professional instructors in the health and wellness industry. 

This comprehensive program is ideal for aspiring educators who are passionate about mentoring, training, and inspiring others. Through a dynamic blend of theory-based instruction and hands-on practice, participants will explore key teaching methodologies, curriculum development, classroom management, and effective communication techniques.

This program focuses on empowering students to confidently transition into the role of an instructor, whether in traditional education settings, corporate training environments, or specialized health and wellness fields. 

INSTRUCTOR IN TRAINING CURRICULUM:PER SC LLR BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY

(C) The Student Instructor Training Program shall:

(1) consist of a minimum of seven hundred fifty (750) hours of instruction designed to teach students the basics of instruction in a cosmetology, nail technology, or esthetics program; and

(2) be conducted under the direct supervision of a licensed instructor in a school licensed by this board. Instructors may supervise only one student at a time; and

(3) be required when an applicant does not meet the requirement of two years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist, nail technician, or esthetician; and

(4) be limited to those persons currently licensed in South Carolina who hold a valid high school diploma or General Education Development certificate (G.E.D.).

(D) The curriculum shall consist of:

(1) one hundred twenty-five (125) hours of instruction in basic teaching methods and counseling techniques, development of lesson plans, South Carolina cosmetology laws and regulations; and

(2) two hundred forty (240) hours of instruction in theory, use of audio-visual equipment, evaluation techniques and instruments, classroom observation, practice teaching, and record keeping; and

(3) two hundred forty (240) hours of instruction in sterilization and sanitation, supervision of clinical activity, effective demonstration procedures, presentation of styling techniques, student/patron relationship; and

(4) one hundred twenty (120) hours of instruction in state enrollment procedures and requirements, inventory control and purchasing, student scheduling, graduate records, licensure application forms; and

(5) twenty-five (25) hours unassigned to be designated as needed on an individual basis.

Learning Outcomes for the Instructor Training Program 

Upon completion of the Instructor Training Program at Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the Foundations of Teaching in Cosmetology 
  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge required to effectively guide and educate students in the practice of cosmetology.
  1. Prepare for the Methods of Teaching Course 
  • Complete all program requirements necessary to transition into the Methods of Teaching Course, a critical step toward achieving instructor certification.
  1. Develop Critical Instructional Skills 
  • Gain insights into instructional strategies, student engagement techniques, and classroom management tailored to cosmetology education. 
  1. Familiarize with Examination and Licensing Procedures 
  • Understand the steps required to register and successfully prepare for the South Carolina LLR Board of Cosmetology Instructor Licensing Examination through PSI.
  1. Register for the Instructor Licensing Exam 
  • Follow step-by-step guidance to register for the South Carolina LLR Board of Cosmetology Instructor Licensing Exam via the PSI platform. This includes document submission, payment procedures, and scheduling the exam. 

Participants who complete the program will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to begin their teaching careers in cosmetology, esthetics, or nail instruction - with a clear path toward obtaining their instructor license.

Course Schedule

STUDENTS MAY BEGIN THE COURSE AT ANYTIME!

The program consists of 750 clock hours, with flexible scheduling options to accommodate the learner. Each applicant for the Instructor Training Program will be assigned to a Licensed Instructor on one of the following schedule options of their choice.

Daytime Schedule 

  • Days: Monday through Friday 
  • Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM 

Evening Schedule 

  • Days: Monday through Thursday 
  • Time: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM

We LOVE providing you with the uniforms you need to SUCCESS within your Student Kit for our LICENSING programs! (If you are attending our certificate courses only, you will provide your own scrubs!) Simply wear professional attire (no jeans) and close-toed shoes on your first day of class – and you will receive your scrubs during your first-day ORIENTATION! Have fun!

For our licensing programs, please bring the following to class on your first day!

  • Small pencil box for storage of metal implements
  • 3-inch wide, 3-ring binder with a front cover insert sleeve

SEHW FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Federal Student Aid is financial aid from the federal government to help you pay for education expenses at an eligible college or career school.
